Let's do Sector Creation for Arathi Sector > XANTHOS SECTOR
Walking through sector creation for the upcoming Arathi Sector, a SciFi roleplaying game from the incredible Castle Grief!
“The Arathi Sector remains a lawless frontier at the edge of known space, and it fights the wars of the future with the armaments of yesteryear, shell casings falling like hot rain over embattled worlds.
The sword still rules here, and the gun, and the flesh that wields them!
This is a region of the merchant king, the barbarian prince, the reaver, the psion whose mind is all but ripped apart as it probes strange gateways beyond the stars.
Welcome to the Arathi Sector.
Who will you be?
How will you die?”
-Castle Grief
I’ll be walking through the “sector creation” rules using the pre-release text-only rules (available to all backers!). You can find out more about Castle Grief’s awesome Arathi Sector kickstarter and join us in crawling these dead stars yourself here: LINK
Space is divided into “sectors”, which are huge regions of space akin to a whole nation or continent in a world. Within each sector are webs of Star systems all connected via Jump Lanes. Each system has its own planets, space stations, orbital constructions, etc. Zooming in even further, planets and points of interest can be explored on foot or by vehicle, too!
Sector Creation
The first step is to create the starting system for my sector. I put it in the middle of my sector map, then rolled on the tables provided in the rules to determine its nature.
Ter-Nu System > Frontier
Then, I go clockwise for every adjacent hex, rolling 1d6 and adding another system on a 5-6. Looks like there’s only one more star system nearby, directly adjacent to Ter-Nu.
Gelian System > Penal Colony
This wasn’t necessary, but for my own worldbuilding fun, I rolled again for the 2nd “ring” of hexes around Ter-Nu. Out of those 11 hexes, 4 become systems.
Horos System> Penal Colony
Valisk System > Concord Link Comms (A system used as a relay for the CONCORD core world communications array, closest thing to the “internet” or “authority” in these lawless voids)
Lamosi System > Lost world, recently discovered or remapped
Iraen System > Active Warzone
Next, I go through each system rolling for the 50% chance each system has a “Concord Gate”, a technological marvel that helps make subspace Jumps across deep space. Looks like the Gelian, Horos, Lamosi, and Irean have Gates.
Lastly, I roll to see if these systems are connected via “Major Jump Routes”, which are essentially commonly known safe paths through deep space used by everyone.
I name this sector: XANTHOS SECTOR
Ter-Nu
my “overlaying” sector map ready to go, I move on to detailing out the interior of the Ter-Nu Star system, where we will start our adventures. I roll on the tables to learn more >
Type: Frontier
Size: Busy (6 Points of Interest)
Population Density: Wilderness
Tech Level: Advanced
I grab 6 d6s and Die Drop them across my blank system hex map randomly, then determine what each die represents by their rolled values. I got 2 gas giants, 1 planet, 1 space station, and 2 double locations. Double locations are special ones where two objects occupy the same hex. I rolled a planet surrounded by an asteroid field for one, and a space station floating over a gas giant for the other.
Let’s roll to find out the details of each of these POIs
Planet Osuna - A dead world covered in ancient ruins
Planet Ectorov-1 - An advanced Concord World
Uzuki Swarm - Pirate-infested asteroid field surrounding Ectrorov-1
Cubatis Station - An important religious center
Seron Castle - A Walak Sovereign Castle-State (Space Station)
The Honored - A gas giant currently being harvested for resources by Seron Castle
TK42 - Gas Giant (empty)
LP27 - Gas Giant (empty)
Whew! There you have it, setting/sector creation as done in Arathi Sector. I can’t wait to dive in with my created character and see how they fit into this world. Thanks for reading, and definitely go support Castle Grief & Arathi Sector if you haven’t already!

Great stuff. Please tell me you're cooking up some player aid PDFs like the ones you made for Al-Rathak.
Ah shit, looks like Imma have to back this one after all. 😆 looks phenomenal!
